Rare Shines was started because of a simple feeling — the kind you get when something good happens and you wish you could keep it.
Not the big, planned occasions. The real ones. A good day with my sister. A quiet hour with my mum. A laugh with a cousin, a moment with my partner, a small win of my own I wanted to remember. The kind of moment that comes and goes before you've had a chance to hold onto it.
Because we live in a busy world. We're always running — work, life, the next thing. The time we get with the people we love is precious, and the moments of real happiness inside it are rarer than we'd like to admit. You might share a minute, an hour, a day, a month, a year, a decade with someone. However long it is, the moments that truly shine are few. They deserve to be kept.
So I wanted to make something that catches them.
That's what Rare Shines is. It's jewellery — but really, it's a way of saving a moment. You wear it yourself, or you give it to someone you love, in the moment that matters. And from then on, every time it's on you — a ring, a necklace, a pair of earrings — it remembers. It remembers the day. It remembers the person who gave it. It remembers why.
Because gifting was never really about the gift. It's about treating someone — a friend, a sister, a brother, your mother, your partner, or your own self — and quietly saying: this moment, with you, mattered to me.
That's why every piece is delicate, meaningful, and made to be kept close. It's why every order arrives beautifully gift-wrapped, ready to give. And it's why we're called Rare Shines — for the rare moments, and the way they keep shining long after they've passed.
What your jewellery is actually made of
A moment worth keeping deserves something that lasts. So we went and checked — every single piece, one by one, with the people who make them.
Most of our range is stainless steel with 18K gold plating. Stainless steel doesn't tarnish, doesn't rust, and doesn't turn green in the shower or at the gym. It's the reason a piece you wear every day still looks like the piece you opened.
The rest is gold-plated copper, brass or alloy. These are beautiful, and at our prices they're honest value — but they're not steel, and we don't pretend otherwise. Plating on these pieces lasts longest if you keep them dry and put them on after perfume rather than before.
Every product page tells you which one you're buying. Not “premium finish”. Not “durable construction”. The actual metal, and how to look after it.
We'd rather tell you the truth about a £21 ring than sell you a story about it.
